Short advice on advice
Most advice is bullshit, even this one. The advice you get is from people with other experiences, environments, and habits. If some advice worked for them, it doesn’t mean it works for you or vice versa. Sometimes some preconditions are required that are unknown to the advice giver that made the advice work for him.
So my advice is:
- If someone says this doesn’t work, don’t be discouraged from trying it.
- Take advice as a proposal for things you can try. If it doesn’t work or you are lacking the requirements to make it work, feel free to discard the advice.
- Advice can become obsolete. Past success doesn’t guarantee future success. But sometimes it can be useful to check if some things that didn’t work in the past still don’t work.
